Funzing: How to Build Emotional Intelligence

Funzing: How to Build Emotional Intelligence

**This talk includes a small beer, wine or non alcoholic beverage

Emotional intelligence – it seems that everyone is talking about it these days – but what exactly is it?

Well, have you ever tried to lose weight but found it difficult to control cravings? Had a bad day at work but taken it out on your partner? Or ever found it difficult to manage stress?

Do you wish you could understand people better? Are you able to communicate with people in a way that influences them?

All of these skills relate to emotional intelligence, and research shows it’s responsible for up to 80% of the factors that determine how 'successful' we are in our work and personal lives.

So that's not our IQ, education, or family background, but our ability to recognise, interpret and manage the emotions of ourselves, and those of others, in order to create the lives we want and enjoy harmonious relationships.

In this interactive workshop you will have the opportunity to:

  • learn what emotions are and why we have them
  • understand what emotional intelligence is and why it’s important
  • learn how to increase your self awareness
  • discover a technique which will help you have greater self control
  • develop your empathy and understanding of other people
  • become a much better communicator by practising a simple, easy, but powerful skill
  • and learn the secret truth to developing emotional intelligence for long-lasting change and success

Here’s what others have said about attending this workshop:

“I got some personal insight into why some of my goals are not achieved. I got actual results there and then from practical exercises that you can’t do at home or alone”

“I learnt a lot about myself especially in the areas I want to work on. It was straight to the point and very informative”

“Nice mixture of theory and practice. We all got personal attention and had time for questions”

“Excellent presentation, the exercises were super helpful, and in a comfortable environment”

“I got lots of techniques to get a better understanding of my emotions. It unpacked my work frustration. It was very good, good structure, I liked the exercises”

Doors: 7pm / Talk starts: 7.30pm.
Tickets: Available here.

Funzing Talks | Let's Talk About Vaginas
Feb
27
7:00 PM19:00

Funzing Talks | Let's Talk About Vaginas

**This talk includes a free glass of wine, beer or soft drink.

There is a penis museum in Iceland but no vagina equivalent. Why is that? Upset at this inequality, Florence is making one and talks through why we need one in the first place, her experiences researching vaginas, vulvas and all parts related, the highs and lows, what would go in a museum about the gynaecological anatomy and the wonderful and strange reactions she's got making the world's first physical vagina museum.

The museum will have four permanent galleries: science, culture, society and history. The science section will cover topics from the anatomy to health, menstruation to menopause, contraception to consent, sexuality to gender identity. The culture collection will showcase the anatomy in the arts and their contribution to the discourse about our genitals, for example The Great Wall of Vagina or The Handmaid’s Tale. The society gallery will explore genitals’ place in society, e.g. religious rites surrounding menstruation, the practises of FGM, of which over 200 million people are living today suffering from, sexual violence and how these cases are dealt with in court. The history gallery will contain objects relating to the history of gynaecological medicine, contraception, menstrual products, sex work, of the erasure and oppression of women and the LGBTI community and the history of feminism.

Florence Schechter is a science communicator and founder of the world's first physical vagina museum. She is opening the vagina museum in UK and has been shortlisted for a Women of the Future Award 2017 in the arts and culture category for her work. She has performed across the country at the Science Museum Lates, Royal Society, British Science Festival, Cheltenham Science Festival, BlueDot Festival, to name a few. Her science YouTube channel has over one million views.

Doors: 7pm / Talk starts: 7.30pm.

Cards Against Humanity Dating – Shoreditch

Let’s be honest….Regular, run-of-the-mill speed dating in London is so boring and monotonous and “singles” cocktail parties are…. Well… A little bit wanky. Share an experience that’s a little bit different making it so much easier to break the ice with somebody.

How It Works:

After dozens of requests spanning pretty-much every one of our dating events in London we’ve decided to launch London’s first ever Cards Against Humanity Dating event!

Never will you learn more about somebody than when playing Cards Against Humanity. Not for the easily-offended we’ll be rotating all of you to make sure you all get to know each other (and your twisted minds) – we have no doubt that it’s going to be HILARIOUS!

As always, we’re not going to promise you that you’re going to meet “the one” but we can guarantee you’ll have a great time meeting new people!

Tickets will sell fast so get in quick! Grab one here.

IRON BLOOM - Grand Opening

Join us for the grand opening of our new sister restaurant and cocktail club Iron Bloom, and enjoy a complimentary tasting menu that's bound to delight!

iron bloom logo 1 ver 2.png

Located in Shoreditch at 46 Great Eastern Street, a former iron factory has been transformed into a triple tier drinking and dining den. Keeping original features such as cast iron pillars and the industrial lift which houses the DJ booth, Iron Bloom blends historic rusticity with a warm, modern feel.

Iron Bloom boasts top notch dining in a relaxed ambience; it’s a British inspired menu made of small sharing plates. Think Guinea fowl, brie and chestnut mushroom pudding, Lobster doughnuts and Wagyu beef burgers.

Iron Bloom is brought to you by the creators of the Looking Glass Cocktail Club. Guests of the Bloom can indulge in our intricate cocktail menu paired with our dishes, adding a quintessential kick to the dining experience.

There’s something at Iron Bloom that we like to call ‘Supper House’ overlooking the restaurant at the top of an old industrial lift shaft our DJ’s will see that your experience has the perfect backing track.

Funzing Talks | The Psychology of Productivity

to Mar 7

Funzing Talks | The Psychology of Productivity

Productivity can be learned and improved. Procrastination can be overcome. The influences that determine our productivity and procrastinating behaviours range from biological, to psychological, psychosocial and environmental. In order to create positive change, we firstly need to understand why we do what we do, how we might change, and what tools we can use to do so. In this talk, we will discuss the underpinnings of unproductive behaviours, common misconceptions, and practical performance strategies for improvement. We will approach the subject from various angles and also consider long-term change and what this requires from us.

Ellis Pecen is a performance consultant and coach. She is a professional performer and worked in music, stand-up comedy, theatre, public speaking and education. Ellis works with driven people from all walks of life, including children. She holds an MSc in Performance Science and is finalizing a PhD in Performance Psychology. She originally trained in theatre and later pursued music and graduated from the Royal College of Music as a classical performer. After that, she studied the psychological aspects of performance and simultaneously immersed herself in performing in various performance disciplines. She’s fascinated with human potential and achievement across performance domains but also –crucially- the performance needed in everyday life! She combines academic research and experience to make performance psychology practical and available to all. Ellis works privately with individuals and delivers workshops to organisations and public institutions. She’s worked on areas such as dealing with performance anxiety, training psychological skills, productivity, decision-making, communication, poise, vocal projection, lifestyle changes, … and more. Ellis is also experienced in working with youth and is particularly interested in mentoring with regards to social mobility and performance. She likes dogs, noisy music and weightlifting.

Doors open at 7pm with the talk to begin at 7.30pm sharp.

*Tickets for this talk include 1 x Small Beer or House Wine and are available here*

Eat My Cocktails

We are proud to introduce our Seasonal Specials Menu.

Our first of a series of scrumptious menus takes the concept of classic Mediterranean cuisine, using cooking techniques such as infusing, fat washing and maceration to create some truly unusual cocktails.

For this menu we have partnered with VKA Organic Vodka (made in Tuscany),  Sabatini Gin (which uses classic Mediterranean botanicals) and Macchia Vermouth Mediterraneo made in Sardegna.

Join us for a Mediterranean themed cocktail hour from 5 o'clock every day.
